This 4 week evening course introduces approaches and techniques used within fine metalwork. It explores how to work with a variety of metals, ferrous (e.g: steel) and non-ferrous (e.g: copper, silver), and how the property of the metal affects your design decisions. Over four evenings, the course will introduce you to brazing and soldering to combine different metals together.
It will also teach you how to join metals mechanically by means of tapping (threading)& riveting, and how to cut, form and drill small pieces of metal both sheet & solid. You’ll learn to be a whizz with aviation snips, heating torches, pillar drills, a basic introduction to a lathe and hand tools. During the course you’ll design & make a small box using all of the methods learnt.
