Event description

Description

Ok, so you know your window treatments inside out, can find curtains to match the colour scheme of just about any room and know where to find accessories to accentuate even the dullest of wallpapers…..but just because you are fantastic at all the insides and outs of being a great Interior Designer….

Do you actually know how to successfully run your business so that it is reaching its (and your) maximum potential?

Or have you just been winging the success of your business on the strength of your Design prowess so far?

Maybe it’s been years since you began your business and drew up your original business model/plan and have lost sight of the direction it was taking you? Maybe you never bothered drawing up a business model in the first place but have just about survived thus far…?

For those of you who are slightly unsure - a Business Model is: - a plan for the successful operation of a business. It identifies:

  • sources of revenue

  • the intended customer base

  • your saleable product and,

  • details of financing.

For any Interior Designer who plans on creating a truly successful business with room for growth, at some point it would behove you to give yourself a strategic over-view of your business and where it’s headed. However, if you find the idea of writing up reams of paper, detailing business plans that you can barely understand, a most daunting prospect – we have just the workshop for you!

Metier Rendezvous, in conjunction with SleepingGiant Consulting will be running another of our hugely successful Business Model Canvas Workshops to make the whole process more visual, easier to understand and hopefully even more enjoyable!

The Business Model Canvas is a strategic tool for developing new business models or documenting and improving existing ones. You no longer require tens of pages of a traditional business plan to understand the intricacies of your business.

BMC, in a single page, explains the core elements that drive the business and leaves out all the unnecessary stuff. The BMC is far easier to tweak, as your design business changes, and far more lucid and coherent.

Let us dive into its details.

1. What is a Business Model Canvas?

Simply put, a Business Model Canvas is a visual way of documenting your business model. It is a chart with elements describing your business’s value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances.

Lost already? This quick 2 min video will give you an overview of the 9 building blocks of your business.

3. What do we do with the canvas?

We'll take you through each section of the canvas so that you build up a clear picture of your business where it is at today. With Siobhan Casey’s hands-on knowledge of Interior Design start-up management and Karen Fugle's executive coaching experience, from working exclusively with Architects and Interior Designers, you will be prompted to explore and question the canvas - your very own business model.

3. What do I get from the canvas, that a normal written business plan doesn't give me?

Using the Canvas to look at your business, delivers three key elements:

Focus

  • Stripping away pages of written ‘stuff’ in a traditional business plan, the BMC gives you a strategic overview, helping you to focus on what’s driving your business and highlighting what is non-essential.

Flexibility

  • It’s a lot easier to tweak your business model and try things (from a planning perspective) with a visual overview that’s sitting on a single page.

Transparency

  • Your team will have a much easier time understanding your business model and be much more likely to buy in to your vision when they can see it clearly before them.

  • We step into the clients shoes and gain tangible insight into their world

  • We get clear on what success means and how to measure it

13.00am - 13.15 round up and questions

Karen Fugle, who uses the canvas with her designer and architectural clients, says:

“Let’s face it, as designers who aren’t specifically trained in business, the whole idea of a written business plan can be daunting. And if you are one of the few who wrote one when you were just a start-up design company, is it languishing in a file somewhere, never to be looked at again?

Without getting stuck into the nitty-gritty of detail, this visual strategic overview is ideal for Interior Designers and will come as a welcome relief. You will understand your business holistically, with clarity and be able to talk about it with improved confidence.

This is THE business plan template for designers.“
