Michael will talk about how to keep your sanity while learning the ropes as an actor!

Michael’s entertaining talk will incorporate lots of practical advice with a few well chosen name-dropping anecdotes along the way...


About Michael

Michael Simkins is an actor and writer. He has starred in West End musicals, including two years as Sam in Mamma Mia and several stints as Billy Flynn in Chicago. He is currently appearing in The Fantastic Follies of Mrs. Rich for the RSC in Stratford.

His numerous theatre appearances include Hay Fever, Yes Prime Minister, Donkeys’ Years, Mary Stuart, Democracy, The Old Masters, Company and Burn This. More recently he has been seen in William Boyd’s The Argument at Hampstead Theatre, Good Canary at the Rose Theatre, Kingston, directed by John Malkovich and Dessert at Southwark Playhouse directed by Trevor Nunn.

Michael’s TV includes Eastenders, Endeavour, Lewis, Harlots, Grantchester and Foyles’ war, plus hundreds of other roles, usually as policemen, experts or unsuspecting husbands!

Films include Mamma Mia – Here we go Again, Mike Leigh's Topsy Turvy and The Iron Lady.

Michael is also a regular newspaper columnist for The Times and The Daily Telegraph and is the author of several books, including the best-selling theatrical memoir What’s My Motivation, and the Costa-nominated Fatty Batter.

As Sir Ian McKellen said of him: ‘It’s thrilling Michael is having such success as a writer... anything to keep him off the stage…’

Michael describes the three most memorable people he’s ever worked with as Meryl Streep, Bjorn and Benny and Ken Dodd.
