Event description

Description

On behalf of the MICRA Co-Directors, we would like to invite you to a cross-Faculty research fora on frailty, physical degeneration and intervention on 3 October 2013. MICRA is hosting this event as part of the FLS/ FMHS Cross Faculty Research Fora programme being led by Cay Kielty. The workshop will take place at Nowgen on Grafton Street, 2-4pm, with a networking lunch from 1pm. We are keen that as many as possible of the key players are able to contribute.

The aim of the workshop is to look at frailty, physical degeneration and intervention, with a specific focus on understanding frailty, tracking back through time and developing interventions. We are keen to focus the workshop on outcomes and would like to look at the option of applying for a centre on frailty. Following a few positioning presentations, the majority of time will be for discussion around research questions.

For those who are not aware, MICRA was recently given final approval to become a cross-faculty research institute on ageing – the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA). MICRA has money available through our seed corn funding to support the development of proposals from the workshop.

Prior to the workshop MICRA will prepare a position paper on frailty for circulation, looking at:

- what we know and don’t know on frailty

- what are Manchester’s strengths, competitor analysis

- where might we focus our efforts, what are the big questions that can’t be tackled by one group alone?

- research questions for group work

Support and facilitation for the workshop and follow up will be provided by members of the FMHS Research Deanery and the research support team in FLS, who will be in attendance.

We are keen to maximise this opportunity and associated outcomes, please do get in touch if you have any specific recommendations for this event.
