About this event
Inspiringsustainableislington is delighted to welcome some special people who are all supporting our local environment and who want to share their passion with you.
Sue Amos: Founded in 2004, Global Generation is an educational charity which works with local children and young people, businesses, residents and families in Camden, Islington and Southwark to create healthy, integrated and environmentally responsible communities. Want to know more about the creation of the Story Garden, situated just behind the British Library ?
Dorothy Boswell : Despite the pandemic, in 2020 residents of a street in Archway created a Green Festival to show how they could reduce their carbon footprint and help tackle the climate emergency. Birdsong flashmobs, free vegetable plants, guided group bikes rides, quizzes and children’s art all made it a fortnight to lift spirits and inspire changes. Find out how it was done.
Anita Grant : The aim of Islington Play, a charity set up in 1971, is that all children will play outdoors. The recent Cultivating Cally project began at the Cally Festival in 2019, when Freeling Street was transformed for the day into a pop-up pocket park. Thanks to funding from the GLAs’ Greener City Fund, the pop-up will become a permanent feature of the Cally and will be played in all year round.
Susanne Grieshaber of London Parklets Campaign will give the history of the parklet movement from its roots in the West Coast of the USA in the 90s, some examples of parklets in London - and Islington - and the objectives of the campaign which was set up early in 2021 ..... if you'd like a community parklet on your local street, come and get some ideas !
We will send you the link to the webinar 48 hours in advance; have some questions ready as there will be time for Q&A !
