Event description
Giving voice to the nearly lost species on the Red List.

About this Event

Poets for the Planet are hosting micro-workshops to raise money for environmental charities. Each micro-workshop is 30 mins long.

Jan Heritage

Writing the Red List

The IUCN Red List is a critical indicator of the health of the world’s biodiversity. https://www.iucnredlist.org Far more than a list of species and their status, it is a powerful tool to inform and promote action for biodiversity conservation and policy change.

In this workshop we’ll explore ways of trying to give a voice to nearly lost species on the Red List. Although we’re not fluent, we can try to translate. Resources and prompts will be provided.

Jan Heritage is the editor of Finished Creatures – a new poetry magazine featuring poets addressing the Anthropocene from environmental, personal and political perspectives.

Times: 12:00-12:30 or 12:30 - 13:00

Causes

We are hoping to raise in excess of £150 per workshop. There are only 10 places available on each workshop and we are suggesting a donation of between £5-£10 for low-waged/unwaged and £10-£50 for waged and/or the salubrious. We will split all the proceeds from the micro-workshops evenly between our two chosen charities.

1) Bees for Development

Founded in 1993, Bees for Development was the first organisation to articulate the reasons why beekeeping is such a useful tool for alleviating poverty while helping to retain biodiversity. www.beesfordevelopment.org/
