Description

Knowing what we are doing is working is at the centre of the school improvement process. We can’t just wait until the end of the year and hope our programmes and systems are working.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation is the key to sustained improvement. They help middle leaders to identify their area’s strengths and weaknesses and allows them to plan for improvements that deliver higher standards and outcomes for pupils.

This course, specifically for middle leaders (Heads of Departments, Heads of Year and Coordinators), will explore the many strategies and approaches to monitoring and evaluating learning, teaching, assessment and pastoral care, enabling them to undertake a probing analysis of their areas progress and performance.

The monitoring strategies and approaches explored will include: using agreed success criteria, rigorous target setting, reviewing planning, using a range of audits, collecting, sharing and moderating samples of pupils’ work, classroom observations and providing feedback to each other and to diagnose strengths, weaknesses and priorities for improvement.

Within the middle leadership context we will identify key information and data to include in the self-evaluation process. Participants will be provided with support on how to analyse data, make accurate judgments from a range of evidence to identify strengths and weaknesses in performance, check the accuracy of assessment data and judgments about progress through rigorous work sampling, lesson observations and sharing of good practice.

Suitability:

This course is suitable for Primary coordinators and Post Primary middle leaders.
