Midlands Physiological Sciences Event
Event Information
About this Event
Against the backdrop of the COVID pandemic and the national steer in respect of the formation of Community Diagnostic Hubs (CDHs), we have recently conducted a piece of work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to better understand the current pathways and reporting practices for tests related to the Physiological Sciences (PS). This work has revealed that reporting practices are variable and do not lend themselves to any kind of uniform approach in establishing a robust demand and capacity position for Physiological Sciences in the Midlands.
In light of the recommendations from Sir Prof Mike Richards’ diagnostic review, and the positive engagement and feedback from the Midlands Diagnostic Event which took place on the 4th November 2020 to focus on Physiological Sciences, we have in collaboration with National, Regional and Subject Matter Experts agreed to host a dedicated session to place PS on the map for the Midlands.
We recognise, from working with SME leads, significant support and help is required to transform the PS services across the Midlands. This event and your support will give a much-needed focus on physiological science specialities and will help highlight the amazing work these services do in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Additionally, the output will help systems shape the design of CDHs by ensuring all physiological sciences are appropriately represented and carefully considered when drawing up plans; and will help develop robust pathways that will in future provide the evidence base for investment in staff and infrastructure. We have already started to build the workplan and agenda with SME leads from your systems. This support and expert advice have been invaluable in shaping this programme going forward.
We are delighted to confirm we will have Sir Professor Mike Richards (Chair – Independent Review of Diagnostic Services for NHS England), Dr Martin Allen (National Advisor for Physiological Sciences) and Prof Berne Ferry (Head of the National School of Healthcare Science) in attendance and would welcome your valuable participation in driving next steps in delivery.
We will circulate the agenda shortly. In the meantime, we would be grateful if you could register your attendance via this link and confirm which of the following workshops you would like to join:
Workshop Session One:
• Workforce/Training
• Digital/Connectivity
Workshop Session Two – Pathways:
• Audiology
• Cardiac Physiology
• Gastrointestinal (GI) Physiology
