About this event

Business • Startups

Midlothian Science Zone (MSZ) Business Forum is hosted several times a year to encourage engagement and collaboration between organisations 'in the zone'. We aim to bring together a wide range of businesses to identify shared support needs, collaborative opportunities and share knowledge across the region; signposting to research, expertise and business services. Guest speakers are invited to present on themes of interest and benefit to our community.

This extra Business Forum will take place on Tuesday 28th October 1pm following on from the popular session at Roslin Innovation Centre in the spring. We will be joined by Jessica McGlynn and Scott Tonner - R&D Managers for Leyton, who will introduce us to the R & D Tax Credits advice that they can offer to businesses within Midlothian Science Zone and beyond.

This interactive session guides bioscience innovators through the practical steps to unlock funding via the UK’s R&D Tax Relief scheme. Participants will explore how activities such as drug discovery, medical device design, advanced diagnostics, and biotechnology projects meet HMRC’s criteria for scientific or technological advancement and uncertainty, making them eligible for cash repayments or corporation tax reductions.

With the merged R&D scheme launching April 2024 - and enhanced credits for R&D-intensive SMEs - early-stage and scaling life-science companies can strengthen cash flow and reinvest in innovation even before commercialisation. Leyton UK will share real-world examples, answer questions, and help attendees identify their own qualifying projects so they can claim the maximum benefit and confidently fund the future of bioscience.

This event will be hosted on Edinburgh Technopole at Bush House in the Redwood Board Room .

On-site parking is available and light refreshments will be provided so please advise if you have any dietary requirements to Emma McCallum, Project Co-ordinator at emma@midlothiansciencezone.com.
