Description

Free discussion hosted by Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland

Migrant sex work and the impact of UK anti-trafficking policies

Speaker: Dr Alison Jobe from Durham University

Critical analyses of the public and policy discourse on ‘trafficking’ into the sex industry highlight the absence of credible evidence for claims of scale, alongside ongoing problems with definition and response. However, these critiques have not had a significant influence on policy and practice in the UK where a problematic account of trafficking into the sex industry often still dominates. This talk will explore how a dominant story of trafficking into the sex industry has excluded those who do not fit a restrictive 'ideal victim' narrative from accessing justice, help and services in the UK context.
