Description

First referred to in 1288 as La Mile Ende, during today’s walk we will discover the history of an often overlooked area of the East End.

We will hear about the Peasants Revolt as well as story of the pupils who attended London’s first Ragged School

The streets where politician George Lansbury and his family called home

The story of the Mile End Murder and who really killed Mary Emsley

The creation of Tower Hamlets Cemetery as one of the “Magnificent Seven” in the Victorian Era and some of the Londoners who call it their final home.

The redevelopment of St Clement's Hospital from a former mental institution to London’s first ever Community Land Trust bringing affordable homes to a location where few wanted to venture in the past

How Mile End survived devastation during World War II including the site of the first V1 bomb in 1944

And the history of the Banana Bridge!
