Step into the Island’s milling history with this one-off, guided 8-mile walk from Pan Mill in Newport to the historic Calbourne Water Mill.
Along the way, you’ll explore the story of the Island’s mills—past and present—as we pass several key sites in and around Newport before heading west through varied countryside on footpaths, quiet lanes, and scenic stretches of the Caul Bourne valley.
We’ll finish at Calbourne Water Mill in time for a late lunch in the Mill café, with a choice of sandwich, soup or jacket potato included in your ticket.
This is a point-to-point walk, with an option to return to Newport via the Southern Vectis Summer Links bus, which departs from the Mill at 13:35pm or 15:35pm.

The route is approximately 8 miles and takes around 4 hours at a relaxed pace, with occasional stops for scenery.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes or trail trainers. Dress for the weather — layers, sun protection or waterproofs depending on the forecast. A refillable water bottle is recommended.
The walk is not suitable for children under 16, due to terrain, distance and pace.
Walks will go ahead in light rain, but in the event of extreme weather or any unforeseen circumstances, the organiser may cancel. In this case, you’ll receive a full refund.
Refunds will only be given if the organiser cancels the walk. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds if you change your mind or are unable to attend.
There is long stay pay and display parking in nearby Coppins Bridge Car Park, or unrestricted street parking in the nearby residential roads.
The walk includes uneven ground, some narrow paths, stiles, and short inclines. It is not suitable for wheelchairs, mobility aids, or pushchairs.
Your £25 ticket includes a guided walk and a light lunch (soup and homemade bread, sandwich or jacket potato) at the Mill café afterwards.
Mill Court is a short walk from Newport Bus Station, which is well served by Southern Vectis routes from across the Island. If you're travelling by bus, aim to arrive in Newport by 9:00am to allow time to reach the meeting point and check in. The walk will begin promptly at 09:30am.
No — this is a point-to-point walk starting in Newport and finishing at Calbourne Water Mill. A return option is available via the Southern Vectis Summer Links bus, which departs from outside the Mill at 3:35pm and returns to Newport. Please note: bus fare is not included in the ticket price.
Well behaved furry friends are welcome on short leads to limit the impact on livestock, but please do consider their wellbeing if the weather is hot.
