Millinery Masterclass

Venue: Royal William Yard Plymouth

Dates: Saturday 21st October - Sunday 22nd October 2017

Winter is nearly here- So why not join us for this weekend hat making course that offers an all-round taster of starting and finishing a hat made using traditional millinery techniques. This workshop is suitable for men and women with lots of  blocks to choose from.

Your workshop will focus on:                                                                                                                                            

  • The basic principles of millinery
  • Blocking the hats over wooden blocks
  • Working with steam, hand moulding
  • Finishing and trimming

This course is suitable for beginners but you must have sewing skills.

All of the materials for this workshop will be provided with a wide range of colours, trimmings and notions for you to choose from.  Classes are kept small with a relaxed atmosphere.

Notes and a welcome pack will be sent out to you with all the information you will need for your creative workshop. 

The course starts promptly at 10am however please allow 15 minutes to arrive, get a tea or a coffee and get yourself started.

At the end of the course you will be presented with a certificate and take home your finished hat, tissue wrapped in its own hat box.




Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

This workshop is suitable for 16+ years.


What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The venue is accessible by local transport and there is parking near the venue. Information regarding transport & parking will be supplied in your information pack.


What can/can't I bring to the event?

All materials will be provide for the workshop however you are invited to bring beads, feathers, flowers or any other items to embellish your milinery creation.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You will be supplied with a pass for your workshop in the registration pack. Please bring this with you on the first day.


What is the refund policy?

Tickets are non refundable however we are able to trasfer your workshop to another date if you contact us at least a week before the workshop start date.


The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Sharon Morgan is a milliner and fashion lecturer. Her millinery contrasts traditional hatmaking techniques of hand forming felt, sinamay and straw over antique wooden blocks with a contemporary finish, creating fall/winter and spring/summer collections.
