About this event
This meeting will be our competition meeting where we have members who will take part in our club humorous competition. This will involve up to 6 members giving a speech between 5 and 7 mins that has a humorous element.
Be prepared to laugh and support people crafting the skill of engaging their audience with humour.
Toastmasters International is a not for profit company providing an educational package for public speaking, leadership, mentoring and evaluation at a pocket-friendly membership cost.
We run hybrid meetings on the first and third Friday of each month (please check for Easter and Christmas holidays):
In-person normally at the Community Hall, Unity Place, 200 Grafton Gate, Milton Keynes, MK9 1UP. The Community Hall is located on the ground floor of Unity Place, on the same side as Milton Keynes station. We recommend parking across the road at the older Santander red office building, which has standard tariff parking. Parking is also available at Unity Place with a few spaces free for up to 2 hours, and there is also a premium tariff in the same area, check the street notices to what tariff applies.
and
Online on Zoom: After registering you will receive an email from mkconfidentspeakers@gmail.com with the zoom meeting and passcode.
We start promptly at 12 noon and finish at 1.15pm. We kindly ask our guests to arrive 15 minutes before the session begins, at 11:45.
You are welcome to join our meetings as a guest so that you can experience the fun of Toastmasters and see how it could benefit you. There's no need to deliver any speeches at your first meeting (unless you want to!) and this meeting is a competition meeting so there will be less opportunity to speak but lots of opportunity to learn and ask questions after the meeting.
Frequently asked questions
No, we have lots of different members who have a variety of public speaking experience. From beginners to semi professionals. This is a place regardless of your background, experience or fear of public speaking you can learn to become confident, communicate better and connect with your audience.
No, although you may want to bring a pen. This is a meeting where we want you to be fully present, listening to the speakers and want you to be able to maximise the most from the experience. We do ask for your comments, feedback on speeches on forms so a pen is useful although spares are available
The meeting is short and has lots of content so to keep disruption to a minimum we would love for you to be able to attend the whole meeting but we understand emergencies happen and if needed to please silently join if the meeting has started or leave the room to not disturb the speaker in progress.
Toastmasters is over 100 years but if this is your first time, come to a meeting early, get to know members, they can help guide you through what to expect. There are normally 3 parts of a meeting. Prepared speeches, Impromptu Talks and Evaluations. It is a safe, enjoyable learning environment.
