Event description
An event exploring the break many women choose (or are forced to) and how this can affect their career trajectory.

About this Event

a-n The Artists Information Company is partnering with The Association of Women in the Arts (AWITA) in an event for their members – acknowledging the intrinsic connection between professional women working in the art world and artists.

MIND THE GAP will explore the break many women choose (or are forced to) and how this can affect career trajectory. It will consider the impact of children, carer responsibilities, illness, higher education, partners careers taking priority and alternative income generation.

The panel will include: Jane and Louise Wilson, artist duo and former Turner Prize nominees; Emily Speed, artist and a-n board member; Rana Begum, artist and 2019 New Contemporaries selector; and Irene Bradbury, Director, White Cube Gallery.

Louisa Buck, art critic and correspondent for the Art Newspaper, will be moderating the discussion, which will be followed by drinks.

Commenting on the need for such an event, Julie Lomax, CEO a-n, said: “We want to look at the reasons why artists have periods of artistic inactivity and the affect these can have on career trajectory. The panel will discuss how artists and arts professionals can work together to make the gap years positive.

The subject keeps rearing its head and it's not necessarily an easy subject to discuss. Yet the strategies we employ to support artists are vital.”

MIND THE GAP takes place, 6:30-8:30pm, 4 September, at Bold Tendencies, London.

This event is free, and available to a-n or AWITA members. Tickets are limited so make sure you reserve your place.
