Mind Yer Heid Plus is a full day session aimed at a wide range of service providers and frontline staff from mainstream and voluntary sector services that impact on the health and wellbeing of Dundee’s citizens, such as housing, social work, health, mental health, leisure, communities, financial inclusion, community safety, criminal justice and many more. The morning section focuses on increasing participants understanding of mental wellbeing and health inequalities whilst the afternoon section focuses on supporting use of motivational interviewing techniques helping participants to consider how they can improve their interactions with people who are disadvantaged. The learning outcomes for this session are to:

Raise awareness and develop understanding on:

  • What mental wellbeing and health inequalities mean

  • The influences on mental wellbeing and health inequalities

  • How to signpost to other support to improve mental wellbeing

Introduce skills in:

  • Listening and addressing barriers to listening

  • Asking open questions

  • Providing compassionate and respectful responses

  • Moving service users forward in a positive way

  • Working with resistance

Please note that this course does not train participants to identify or respond to specific mental health problems or crisis situations. For this, we recommend ASIST or Scotland's Mental Health First Aid.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide lunch. Please bring your own lunch or alternatively, there are a small number of shops not too far away.

Limited parking is available at Mitchell Street Centre. Free parking is available on surrounding streets.

Some exercises during the morning session involve relatively long periods standing - please make us aware at time of booking if this will be difficult for you or if you have any other special requirements.

Access to training room is via stairs only. please call us on 01382 435824 if this will be a problem
