Event description
Specifically designed for PhD researchers, learn key practices of mindfulness and how to integrate mindfulness into your daily life.

About this event

Join academic and mindfulness teacher Dr Allan Kilner-Johnson for an evening of transformative guided meditations. This free 90-minute workshop designed specifically for PhD researchers from any university (as well as everyone who plans to start a PhD or has recently completed one!) introduces key practices of mindfulness and provides the framework for integrating mindfulness into your life.

Undertaking a PhD brings a range of challenges, and a mindfulness practice can help you to increase positive states such as joyfulness, inspiration, and contentment while decreasing undesirable states such as anxiety, distress, and anger. Crucially for PhD researchers, mindfulness has been shown to increase attention, awareness, and the ability to make connections between abstract ideas.

Mindfulness isn’t just something you try a few times a week in order to fix a specific issue that you are facing. Mindfulness is a way of living and looking at the world, and a regular mindfulness practice can transform your body, emotions, and mind at a fundamental level. In this workshop we will explore topics such as limiting mindsets, the nature of the ego, and time orientation.

Dr Allan Kilner-Johnson is an academic and accredited mindfulness meditation teacher registered on the UK Mindfulness Teachers Register. He is also a registered yoga teacher (Yoga Alliance RYT-200) and psychosynthesis coach trained at the Institute of Psychosynthesis.

All experience levels welcome, from beginner meditators to advanced practitioners! You may want to have a notebook and pen nearby, but no other preparation is needed. A Zoom link will be sent to everyone who registers on the afternoon before the event.
