About this event

Hobbies • Knitting

Mending is an opportunity to keep our possessions functioning for longer, reduce the amount of textile waste we produce, and connect with our possessions more deeply by engaging in mindful processes of repair.

The skills of mending used to be ubiquitous, but in an age of hyper-availability of clothes, they have fallen out of use. This workshop teaches participants how to darn and patch holes in clothes or other textile items, and provides a space of quiet, contemplative mending to find ease within.

All mending materials will be provided, but please bring along an item you would like to mend.

Participants will leave with:

  • A mended item
  • Handouts detailing the process of darning, sources of creative mending inspiration, and further information about other types of darning and mending.
  • An experience of relating to the exhibition in an embodied way

This workshop is for any one of any ability or experience.
