Event description
St. Margaret's House host Adam Protz and Berne for an intimate evening of live music and mindfulness meditation in their chapel

About this event

For many people, music is one of the most powerful ways to feel alive. It can, in itself, be a powerful, mindful experience. But like many things in our hectic lives, it’s often pushed into the background, or used as a distraction, to zone out from the reality of life.

While there is nothing wrong with escapism at times, too often, we are not with our lived experience, which means we’re turning away from who we really are. An example of this is at concerts where fans experience their favourite artist through the camera lens of their smartphone, rather than being fully in the moment.

Come along to experience the calming and almost psychedelic experience of guided meditation combined with gentle live music — an opportunity to tune out day to day worries and enjoy the authentic presence that both life and music offer us.

The most important thing to bring is yourself, and feel free to bring mindful aids such as a journal to write in if you’d like.

Prepare to experience music like you never have before.

Adam Protz

Composer and multi-instrumentalist for film, dance and orchestras, as well as releasing his own music, Adam has played at the likes of Stroud Fringe Festival, South Farm, and recorded his latest EP at Childwickbury Manor, the home of revered director, Stanley Kubrick.

Berne

Ethereal Earth-pop duo Berne come with a deep-rooted mission to inspire better care for the planet through their music and lifestyle. Ambient dreamy electro-pop instilling hope for the future.

We host a wide variety of events throughout the year, including regular art exhibitions, film screenings, music gigs, spoken word nights, and comedy performances as well as special one-off festivals. Check out our event listings to find out what’s going on this month.

We are home to more than 30 different community organisations and charities and we also offer various room hire facilities at low rates, as well as office spaces to rent at below the market rates.

Our award-winning  Gallery Café offers a delicious selection of vegan food, an exciting programme of live events, and regular art exhibitions from up-and-coming artists.

You can drop-in our Create Place for free weekly art sessions, which are open to everyone no matter the skill level. They’re the perfect place to meet fellow crafters while working on a project or learning a new skill and enjoying a cuppa. Check out our calendar, as there are lots of one-off workshops and in-depth courses offered each month.

The Canvas is a new space available for artists, rehearsals, meetings and community projects. We also provide a holistic and low-cost wellbeing program called The Health Tree for the community in Bethnal Green and in our hall and chapel and in the Canvas.

Looking to shop ethically or to donate a few clothes? Our charity shop, Ayoka, is full to the brim with delights, from clothes to accessories, and books.

The work we do would not be possible without the incredible support of our volunteers. If you would like to volunteer with us, whether for a one-off opportunity or on an ongoing basis, please e-mail volunteer@stmargaretshouse.org.uk to learn about all of the opportunities available.
