Description

Mindful Photography Workshop. Look Again at Autumn!

Discover a mindful approach to the art of photography in this one-day workshop, held in the stunning grounds of Westonbirt Arboretum. Use a camera, smart phone or tablet. Learn to look and really see!

In this workshop you slow down and use photography, nature and walking to look again at the world around you. By focusing on the present moment, you learn to really take notice and to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. You experience the opposite of 'snapping away'.

Exploring themes such as colour, texture, form, light, reflection, the ordinary, and your relationship with the natural and built environment, you will develop your creativity and realise that there is so much more to see at Westonbirt than trees!

The photography side of things is kept simple, low tech and fun. You can use any device you choose, from a mobile phone, tablet or a digital camera. The workshop is suitable for all abilities and levels of photography experience. Ruth will advise on technical aspects if required, but the focus is very much on looking and creating photographs.

You start off at the Learning Centre, exploring how to look and see differently, before going on a gentle walk around the arboretum, taking photos in a calm and mindful way of this truly inspiring place. The morning is spent together as a group. After lunch there is the opportunity to explore the site more on your own.

This workshop will help you improve your photography skills as well as help you connect more deeply with nature. You will also learn simple tools that will help to reduce stress and improve your general wellbeing.

You will need to bring comfortable outdoor weather clothing and footwear.

The cost of the workshop includes entry into the arboretum.

You can either bring your own lunch or buy lunch at the lovely cafe at the Arboretum.

Here are quotes from previous participants:

“A very different approach to taking photos. I felt free to really focus on what I was seeing and saw so much more. It reminded me to slow down and see the little moments of beauty of interest. To remember that these ‘bits’ of life are always there!” Jenny Barton

“I really enjoyed the workshop. It showed me how to look at things from a different perspective. It has shown me to slow down and really look rather than just point and shoot.” J Wright

I very much enjoyed the workshop. It made me focus and think more about taking photos. I’m a lot more aware of what’s going on around me now while taking pictures – i.e. sounds, colours, people etc.” Mia Rigley

“During the afternoon at Westonbirt, I took some photos that normally would be outside of my comfort zone. The light made the colours pop! I loved the environment. Each time I do one of these workshops with Ruth, I see things differently or see things that I would not normally notice.” Paula Jones

The approach was unique in so far as I felt connected to nature in a different way. It gave me the opportunity to take better photos and feel better.” Liam Whelan

“No pressure, no technicality - friendly, slow-paced and informative.” Jim Evans

“A friendly, gentle, mindful approach to photography in a fantastic setting.”Adie Risborough
