Event description

Description

Discover a mindful approach to the art of photography in these one-day courses, held in the stunning grounds of Westonbirt Arboretum. Learn to look and really see!

In this workshop you slow down and use photography, mindfulness, and walking to look again at the world around you. You learn to take notice in the present moment, and see the extraordinary in the ordinary. You experience the opposite of 'snapping away'. As well as improve your photography skills, the workshop helps you reduce stress and improve your wellbeing.

You start off indoors, at the Learning Centre, exploring how to look and see differently, before going on a gentle walk around Westonbirt Arboretum, taking photos in a calm and mindful way of the beautiful environment of this truly inspiring place.

The photography side of things is kept simple, low tech and fun. You can use any device you choose, from a mobile phone, tablet or a digital camera. The workshop is suitable for all abilities and levels of photography experience. Ruth will advise about certain technical aspects if required, but the focus is very much on looking and seeing and creating photographs while being in the present moment. You do not need previous experience of mindfulness.

You will need to bring comfortable outdoor weather clothing and footwear.

The cost of the workshop includes free entry into the arboretum.

You can either bring your own lunch or buy lunch at the lovely cafe at the Arboretum.

Testimonials from people who attended Look Again Mindful Photography workshops at Westonbirt Arboretum.

“I really enjoyed the workshop. It showed me how to look at things from a different perspective. It has shown me to slow down and really look rather than just point and shoot.” J Wright

“I enjoyed the workshop very much. Lots of encouraging support and a good size group. It reminded me to slow down and to take notice without rushing.” Jane McNeil

I very much enjoyed the workshop. It made me focus and think more about taking photos. I’m a lot more aware of what’s going on around me now while taking pictures – i.e. sounds, colours, people etc.” Mia Rigley

"I really enjoyed the afternoon. I took some photos that normally would be outside of my comfort zone. The light made the colours pop! I loved the environment. Each time I do one of these workshops, I see things differently or see things that I would not normally notice.” Paula Jones

The approach was unique in so far as I felt connected to nature in a different way. It gave me the opportunity to take better photos and feel better.” Liam Whelan

“No pressure, no technicality - friendly, slow-paced and informative.” Jim Evans
