Mindful Presence with Others (six Wednesday evenings)

This course is open to anyone who has completed an introductory Mindfulness course with Mindfulness-West or with any other Mindfulness teacher.
Many challenges arise when we take our mindfulness beyond the boundaries of our sitting meditation and bring it into relationship with another human being. Our internal reactions are fast and automatic, and the unseen basis of our communication has usually formed before we even open our mouths.
In this six-session course we will explore what can happen when we bring the principles of mindfulness into our experience of relating, placing the emphasis of our awareness on 'being' in communication rather than omn the 'doing' of it.
We will mix some familiar meditation practices with 'mindful communication meditations': exercises that pare ourcommunication down to the essentials, bringing awareness to the bare experience of meeting another person, of being in a group, of standing out. As we gently explore and befriend the edges of our comfort zones we will develop tools to bring mindfulness into our experience of communication.
(There will be no session on November 30, so the course will end on 7 December)
