8-Week Mindfulness & Food Course

"What you cultivate, you become" - "You are what you eat”

Course starts: Monday,28th Oct. and ends on 16th Dec. 2019

Food is an important part of our lives, and we talk about it almost as much as about the weather. There is “comfort food”, “health food”, and many different diets. But how often are we really mindful about our eating: when do we sit down to fully experience our food, its smell, taste, texture? The company and locations we eat in?

In this course, we invite you to bring mindful awareness to how you relate to food, to re-engage with what you eat, why you eat it, how (not) eating makes you feel, which role (shared) meals play in your life, and how your food choices relate not only to the people around you but to the world at large. We will explore these questions through mindfulness practices and teaching to tap into our inner understanding of what the body needs, learning to really listen to the signals our wise body gives us. These practices will help you in a direct, practical way to make skilful healthy choices around food and eating, contributing to your overall wellbeing.

  • All-day retreat with mindful eating

We ask you to bring some food to share for a potluck meal at the start of every course session at 6.30pm, followed by mindfulness practices at 7pm and space for reflection and exchange.

Course Structure

  • Week One: Waking up from Automatic Pilot – How we relate to food
  • Week Two: Another Way of Being, Keeping the Body in Mind – You are what you eat
  • Week Three: Gathering the Scattered Mind – Nourishing and Depleting Foods
  • Week Four: Recognising Reactivity – Taking charge of our Food Choices
  • Week Five: Allowing and Letting Be – Eating with others
  • Week Six: Responding Skilfully: Thoughts Are Not Facts – Symbolic meals
  • Week Seven: How Can I Best take care of Myself? – Taking care of ourselves and creation in our food choices
  • Week Eight: Mindfulness For Life – Long-term sustenance and sustainability

Cost:

£350 (£50 deposit to book your place; the remainder is due in Week One)

Alternatively, you can pay in two instalments; £50 deposit to book , then £150 in Week One and £150 in Week Five.

This includes 25+hrs of face-to-face training, manuals, recipes, meditations and a day retreat on 9 November 2019 (if you have participated in a course before) or 18 Janaury 2020 (open to old and new course participants)
