The Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Life (MBCT -L)course is based on the original Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT course) and has been adapted by Oxford University Mindfulness Centre to be used in community settings, where people can participate in the programme over 8 weekly sessions of 2 hours. It is intended for people who want to reduce stress and improve mental wellbeing. It is taught in a suitable and safe environment, in a group of no more than 20 people.

Participants will practice mindfulness meditations as well as cognitive -behavioural approaches in ways that are available to all. The course offers a different way of living that supports people to work with distress and difficulties, and enhance resilience as well as realise their potential and experience gratitude.

Participants will learn:

• to understand the workings of their mind and recognise patterns/mental habits
• to stand back from difficult thoughts and feelings
• begin to recognise early warning signs and take action
• be kinder and more compassionate to yourself

Certificates will be given out at the end of the course.

Home Practice

Participants are encouraged to do a daily practice of 20 mins a day over the 8 - week course and experiment with different times of the day. Participants will be given a handout each week with the Home practice and a CD or access to download the meditation for each week.
