8-week mindfulness programme for university students

I developed MBCUL as part of my PhD in psychology, back in 2006. It is based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction but has been adapted to focus on university life. It is a group programme, with no more than 20 students. Although it is a group programme, the focus is very much on you as an individual. Sessions will be held on Zoom and will last for one hour per week.

Aims:

Introduce you to mindfulness and mindfulness exercises
Help you establish your own mindfulness practice
Help you explore 'being with' areas you find challenging at university
Help you explore 'opening up' to the positive/joy at university
Teach you a model of reflective practice and how to apply it.

Content

The first three sessions focus on helping you learn the basics of mindfulness meditation and to establish your own personal practice.

The following four sessions each focus on one of the following areas:

Stress
Academic work
Health & wellbeing
Relationships & communication

Each of these sessions includes a guided practice to explore what it is like 'being with' each of these areas, then works through a reflective model to help you come up with your own unique learning points and action plan. The final session will consolidate everything we have covered and focus on helping you build a plan for how you will use the tools and approaches in the future.
