About Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be defined as knowing what is happening, while it is happening, without preference or judgement. By being mindful we develop self-acceptance and compassion towards ourselves and to others. Learning to practice Mindfulness helps us to re-examine the relationship we have with our experience of day-to-day challenges, enhancing the quality of our lives and expanding our skills to cope with stress and pressure.

Mindfulness is generally taught in ‘8-week courses’, of which MBSR is one. These programmes are delivered by trained teachers with their own Mindfulness practice. The courses have been well researched and we know that they are effective. The NHS and the Mental Health Foundation are both enthusiastic about how they can help people.

The course

The programme enables participants to bring Mindfulness practice and qualities into their own lives, to become familiar with the range of core practices, and to devise their own personal practice to support their own Mindfulness. The classes are experiential and practical. Participants have the opportunity to learn more about recognising and responding to challenges, stress and pressure in daily life. Participants are provided with a course handbook and audio resources. The weekly sessions will take place in a safe and relaxed context, with space for reflection and conversation.

Who the course is for?

Most of us can benefit from developing Mindfulness. Whether we come to the practices out of personal curiosity, from a place of stress, because of an illness or trauma, or because of a work interest, Mindfulness can support us to handle these challenges. Whatever your interest, the first step is to establish a Mindfulness practice for yourself: this course focuses on helping you to make this step.

The next programme, taught by Jennifer and Andrea, will start in October at Equilibrium Yoga Centre in Peterborough. The course runs on Monday evenings, 6.30 – 8.30pm.

Fees:

There is a limited “early bird” booking offer of £245, thereafter £260 for the course. The fee includes tuition, a learning manual, and practice recordings for personal use.

The dates are:

October 2nd (orientation), 9, 16, 23, 30,

November 6, 13, 27 and Dec 4 (closing session)

Half day of practice on Sat 18 Nov 12-6pm.

To register for a place:

Please complete the online registration form. All participants will need to complete a personal registration form and bring along to the orientation session on 2 October. A non-returnable deposit of £90 will be charged for any cancellation after 18 September 2017 and before 2 October. Please note that we are unable to make any refunds once the course starts, i.e. from 2 October onwards.

The minimum course size is six people. It is rarely necessary, but if we receive fewer than six registrations we reserve the right to reschedule the class. If the rescheduled dates don't suit you, we will refund the course fee in full.
