Description

A weekend retreat with Ken Lunn

10:30-16:30, Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 July

Discover mindfulness practice on a non-residential city retreat at Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds. Mindfulness has become a contemporary, secular expression of Buddhism, which compliments the more traditional Buddhist teachings at the Centre.

Qualified mindfulness teacher Ken Lunn will lead a two-day exploration of mindfulness, as taught on the well-established Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. There will be opportunities to try mindfulness meditations and practices and learn more about mindfulness, through guided practices, taught sessions and discussions.

Saturday

Mindfulness: meditation, practice or way of life. This session will introduce some formal and informal mindfulness practices. The group will explore mindfulness experientially, through guidance and discussion.

Mindfulness: the body as a foundation. This session will explore various practices that focus on the body and senses. One of the four foundations of mindfulness, the body is used as a focus to increase our awareness and develop a more responsive and less reactive way of engaging with the world.

Sunday

Mindfulness: foundational attitudes and compassion. This session will look at our ways of relating to the world and explore ways of cultivating attitudes and compassion that help reduce stress and improve equanimity. Mindfulness: developing a personal practice. The greatest challenge for many is weaving a mindfulness or meditation practice into daily life. This session will be an open sharing of ideas for building our personal practices to support us.

Ken has an MA in Mindfulness-Based Approaches from Bangor University. He is on the UK Listing of Mindfulness Teachers. He is business development manager for The Mindfulness Network Ken has had a personal meditation practice for over 20 years and has taught many classes at JBCL.

The weekend is open to all, either those just starting out or those with a mature mindfulness or meditation practice.

Suggested donation £50 for the weekend, or £25 per day.

Please bring your own vegetarian lunch.
