Mindfulness Day Retreat
Event Information
Description
Mindfulness is a meditation practice that helps us to become more aware of our present moment. It can help us develop a sense of wellbeing as mindfulness enables us to see more clearly what is happening in and around us. Through practice, we can make conscious and skilful choices about how to respond to difficulties or emotions, rather than falling into old or habitual ways of reacting – which may not always be helpful for us.
This retreat offers the opportunity to experience a day of mindfulness practice, guided by experienced teachers. The day will be largely experiential - although there will be time for discussion and exploration - and involve a variety of practices, including some gentle movement and stretches, as well as sitting meditations. It is intended to incorporate a period of silence into the day, to give participants the opportunity to deepen their practice without the stimulus of speaking or listening.
The day is suitable for those with no experience of Mindfulness, and it can help to sustain and deepen the practice of those who have previously attended a Mindfulness course or have an established practice. Getting in touch with your body and bringing an attitude of kindness and respect towards it is a key intention for many of the meditations we will practice during the day.
Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and to bring some layers for warmth. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout the day and there is a café at the venue to buy lunch. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own lunch and to enjoy it in the museum’s lovely gardens.
