Is mindfulness right for me?

Accepted Answer

Mindfulness is best developed when life is relatively steady. At times, the practice of turning towards difficulties could be too challenging, for example if you’ve just had a bereavement, are going through a relationship breakdown or are in an acute phase of mental ill-health.

Question 2

How much will I need to practice at home?

Accepted Answer

You’ll need to practise at home between classes, ideally for two sets of ten minutes a day to start with, rising to up to half an hour a day. You might find you start to enjoy it! People who put the most effort into home practice often get most out of the course.

Question 3

Do I need to bring any equipment with me?

Accepted Answer

You'll probably want to bring a pen and some paper or a notebook. Yoga mats will be available if you'd like to meditate whilst lying down. You are welcome to bring your own if you would rather. We also suggest a blanket for warmth as the Hub can be cold. And a cushion for greater chair comfort.

Is this course suitable for under-18s?

Unfortunately not, we are not trained to facilitate courses for under-18s.

Question 5

What's the format of the course?

Accepted Answer

The course contains a mix of teaching, meditations and group enquiry, with plenty of time for questions. It follows the standard Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress 8-week curriculum, condensed into 4 fortnightly sessions, with email contact and support between sessions.

Question 6

Will I need to buy any extra materials, e.g. books or meditation tracks?

Accepted Answer

All meditation tracks for home practice can be downloaded/streamed for free. Having your own copy of the course handbook 'The Little Mindfulness Workbook' by Gary Hennessey can be helpful but is completely optional. Second hand copies can be found online for around £4 if you wish to purchase one.
