Practicing mindfulness has numerous health and well-being benefits:
Overview
Mindfulness is a gentle, yet profoundly powerful practice that can empower us to be present and in the here and now – fully alive in the moment. It enables us to slowly, gently and consistently ‘re-calibrate’ our attention to stay in the present – rather than retreating too frequently back into our past or casting our thoughts into the future. It is a ‘felt’ awareness at the point when we are truly attentive to the current task in hand – when we are able to direct our attention with purpose to our inner experience – our presence with others and in our communion with the natural world and environment around us.
Reducing stress
Mindfulness helps to alleviate stress by encouraging individuals to focus on the present moment and accept it without judgment or criticism. By nurturing awareness of our thoughts and emotions, we can develop a more balanced approach to stressful situations.
Emotional awareness
Mindfulness practice fosters better emotional awareness, enabling us to better understand our emotions without being overwhelmed by them. This helps us to more comfortably and confidently embrace day-to-day situations with greater clarity and composure.
Enhancing focus and concentration
Regular mindfulness and meditation practice has demonstrated improvement in concentration, focus and clarity of mind. By regularly training our mind to be present and without distraction, we can enhance our ability to be more attentive to tasks in hand, resulting in more productive and impactful outputs.
Improving mental health and well-being
Mindfulness practice is effective in helping to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other related mental health conditions by enabling individuals to gain a better insight into their minds and to recognise certain triggers that may impact negatively on our longer-term mental health. It also supports our inner resilience and emotional balance.
Physical well-being
The practice of Mindfulness has been linked to various physical health benefits. High blood pressure, chronic pain, and poor sleep can all be positively influenced by mindfulness practice. By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, mindfulness can support our overall physical well-being. In our programme, we also integrate simple and effective mindful movement exercises that re-connect our body-mind.
