This nine session mindfulness course, led by Anna Black, runs on Tuesday evenings, from 7pm to 9pm on January 17th; 24th; 31st; February 7th; 14th; 21st; 28th; March 2nd and 14th 2017 plus an 'all day' retreat on Saturday 4th March (10am to 4pm). The first session is an orientation evening.
The course is based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. We combine that with elements derived from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). It follows the outlines laid out in Michael Chaskalson’s book: ‘Mindfulness in Eight Weeks’.
The course comprises approximately 14-16 people working together as a group. On it, you will learn several key mindfulness practices and have the chance to discuss these and your experience of them in the group.
The course is helpful for generally learning more about mindfulness. It is also helpful for managing stress, anxiety and pain. There is a strong evidence-base for such courses and one like it is recommended by NICE to help prevent relapse of depression.
Many people who complete this course report benefits such as an increased ability to relax, greater energy and enthusiasm for life, heightened self-confidence and assertiveness, and an increased ability to cope more effectively with stress. They also find that they are kinder towards themselves and others, and more accepting of the situations they find themselves in.
Home practice is an important part of the course, and each participant is recommended to try doing between 20 and 40 minutes of practice, six days per week, between each class.
The course fee of £325 covers the cost of all tuition, the course workbook and audio downloads to support home practice. There is an early bird offer of £295 for bookings received before 15th December 2016.
There are a few concessions at £175 including VAT available for students and those out of work and receiving benefits. Please email Anna directory if you would like to apply for this.
