Description

Facilitated by Maya Campbell

The Workshop:

The workshop will provide an introduction to modern day secular mindfulness, and provide a brief overview of its historical origins, scientific and theoretical underpinnings, and outcome studies. Therapeutic systems which use mindfulness training as a key component are Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, (MBSR; Kabat-Zinn, 1990), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT; Segal, Williams & Teasdale, 1993), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC; Neff & Germer, 2013), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT; Lineham, 1993), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT; Hays, Strosahal & Wilson, 1999) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CBT; Gilbert, 2009).

The day will include an introduction to the core skills of mindfulness, how to use mindfulness in a therapeutic relationship and how to teach clients to use mindfulness skills. There will be a mixture of didactic teaching, reflective exercises and meditations with some take home practices.

The Trainer:

Maya Campbell is a qualified mindfulness teacher (MBSR/MBCT/MSC), psychologist (MSc) and research scientist (PhD), with a particular interest in compassion-based approaches.
