Mindfulness and MBSR?

Thirty four years ago Jon Kabat-Zinn developed the MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) program. He defines mindfulness as "paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and nonjudgmentally."

Boyatzis and McKee bring it down to three key words: Aware, Awake and Attentive. Put simply, it means ‘being fully present’.

What are the benefits?

For the last 20 years, an impressive number of quantitative studies have measured the physiological and psychological benefits of mindfulness.

The physiological benefits of reduced stress include decreased blood pressure, stronger immune system, better sleeping, and reduction in levels of stress; the psychological benefits include increased concentration and attention span, increased self-awareness and awareness of others, increased interpersonal sensitivity, enhanced communication skills.
