Event description
Mindfulness is the ability to live in the present moment. Once you have understood how it works, you will be taught how to practice it.

About this Event

Mindfulness is the ability to live in the present moment. It has gained widespread acknowledgement in facilitating mental health and wellbeing. The three-part workshop is designed to teach you ‘how’ to meditate. You will understand how meditation has an effect on your thoughts, emotions and behaviour through a psychological perspective. Once you have understood how it works, you will be taught how to practice mindfulness meditation using the original Buddhist approach. We will begin by meditating for 15 minutes and build up your mental muscle to meditate for 45 minutes by the end of the third weekly session. Each workshop will last between 1.5 to 2 hours. The three-part workshop will consist of

Introduction to Mindfulness (16th January 2021)

Role of Love and Compassion in Mindfulness (23rd January 2021)

Building Resilience through Wisdom (30th January 2021)

Each workshop will consist of psychological understanding, self-reflection, meditation and an in-depth question and answer session. You will be assigned with a task and practice log after each workshop. You can bring along a bottle of water, cushions and a blanket.

About the Speaker

A Sports and Performance Psychologist by profession, Sarah attended a 10-day Vipassana (a form of Buddhist meditation) retreat in 2016 which changed the way she viewed life. She has studied psychology for a decade and been a former competitive Judo athlete but nothing has come close to meditation. When she realised the power of meditation, she was keen on using it on her clients-Athletes. Athletes often face constant pressure of performance, life and career decisions. In her experience, meditation improved their ability to get ‘In the zone’, they reported better sleep and eating habits and also experienced enjoyment in their sport and increased energy in their daily life. Upon seeing such appositive results, it gave rise to her new ambition- ‘Everyone must have access to mindfulness meditation’

In Collaboration with Goldney House, Sarah has designed ‘Mindfulness Meditation for Beginners’ workshop using her knowledge as a certified Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapist and her experience as a sports psychologist and a Vipassana meditator. Her approach is a beautiful mixture of science and spirituality that will take you on a journey in understanding yourself at the deeper level and show you ways in which you can become resilient in dealing with life’s many challenges.
