About this Event

Mindfulness of the Breath: a 7-day course with Buddhist nun Kelsang Chogma

In this course you will build familiarity with practising mindfulness of the breath, which means training in focusing on the breath without forgetting it. Forgetfulness is one of the major obstacles to meditation; if we forget the object of meditation we have nothing to concentrate on. The principal opponent to forgetfulness is mindfulness; mindfulness is the life force of meditation.

Even though breathing meditation is only a preliminary stage of meditation, it can be quite powerful. We can see from this practice that it is possible to experience inner peace and contentment just by controlling the mind, without having to depend at all upon external conditions.

Just by doing breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes a day we can develop a sense of well-being, inner strength and contentment that reduces stress and anxiety, enriches our life, enables us to cope with the busyness of the modern world and improves our relationships with others.

The course is offered as seven 20-minute video sessions designed to be viewed once a day for seven days. In this way you will build the positive habit of a regular meditation practice and experience the benefits that come from training your mind.

With this highly beneficial course you will learn:

  • How to sit in a good meditation posture - either on a chair or cushion
  • The benefits of meditation
  • Tips for successful meditation
  • How to train in mindfulness focusing on the breath
  • How to carry your meditative experience with mindfulness in daily life

Each 20-minute session includes guided meditation on the breath and brief instructions to explain the meditation and help you improve.
