Event description

Description

Six week course - consecutive weeks commencing 9 June.

Most people have heard of Mindfulness - you may have read a book or two, or some articles in a magazine, and followed the suggestions... for a few days ...... and then just gone back to the usual ways!

Elaine is a trained and experienced mindfulness practitioner who has been providing mindfulness courses in Bicester for several years with excellent feedback from course participants (scroll down to read some of the comments).

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is essentially about being fully present in the moment. Many of us spend a lot of time worrying about the future or reliving the past. This can be a major cause of stress, anxiety, frustration and irritability and may lead to depression. Mindfulness can promote a greater sense of calmness that can be useful for daily life - whether you have a stressful job or a generally stressful life. Mindfulness is also associated with finding a greater sense of happiness and increased creativity.

What will you learn?

You'll learn a variety of techniques to help you bring mindfulness into your everyday life. With a mix of presentation, discussion, practice and feedback, the course will ensure you develop new skills to bring a greater sense of positivity, confidence, calm and wellbeing. The emphasis will be on practical skills that you can apply day to day. Each week will have a theme so that concepts are introduced gradually with the opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. You will also be asked to do some home practice (practice guides provided).

The course is carefully structured to build progressively, giving you the motivation to develop a consistent and lasting practice.

Who might benefit from attending the Mindfulness Skills for Everyday Living Course?

If any of these apply to you, you may wish to attend a course:

  • You'd simply like to find out more about mindfulness and explore it - find out what it might mean to you

  • Your mind won't switch off and you find it difficult to relax

  • You feel stressed or constantly running to catch up and never quite making it

  • You feel a bit down or that your life isn't going the way you'd like it to

  • You are having to cope with change at work or at home

  • You are feeling undervalued or unappreciated at work or at home

  • You seem to spend time re-living the past - what might have been, or worrying about the future

Whilst mindfulness can be used as a therapeutic technique - often to help with stress, anxiety or depression, you certainly do not need to be unwell to benefit from mindfulness. By becoming more mindful, you can develop the "kind of happiness and peace that gets into your bones and promotes a deep-seated authentic love of life, seeping into everything you do and helping you cope more skillfully with the worst that life throws at you." (Mark Williams).

Far better to develop the skills you need to deal with stress or anxiety before you face them than when you are in the midst of them. This six week course is for the general public.

The course runs for six weeks - comprising six, one and a half hour sessions.

Sunday afternoons: 16.00-17.30

Dates: Jun 9, Jun 16, Jun 23, Jun 30, Jul 7, Jul 14
