A silent revolution is underway in battery technology, hear from Professor Louis Piper on market trends and cutting edge research
About this event
Minerva Business Angels brings you one of the leading researchers in Lithium Battery technology, Professor Louis Piper from Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG). WMG are at the forefront of the UK's effort in supporting the development of battery technology.
This talk is an opportunity to hear about market trends and research in what is a silent industrial revolution. We have all heard about the demand for electric vehicles, the need for 6-8 battery Giga factories and the activities of Nissan, British Volt and Tesla (who use Panasonic Battery technology), but do we understand some of the challenges?
As Professor of Electrochemical Materials at WMG, Prof. Piper focuses on integrating advanced materials science into battery processing to develop cheaper, safer, faster and better batteries.
He completed his PhD in Physics at Warwick University in 2006 and spent 4 years at the National Synchrotron Light Source (Upton, NY) before joining the faculty at Binghamton University, State University of New York (SUNY). At Binghamton Uni. he was Professor of Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy and Director of the Materials Science & Engineering Program (2017 – 2020). He won the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Creative Activities (2018) and was fortunate to work alongside M Stanley Whittingham, co-inventor of the Li-ion battery and 2019 Nobel Laureate of Chemistry, as part of the North East Centre for Chemical Energy Storage (NECCES).
