In collaboration with Mini First Aid Nottingham and Derby, we are pleased to be offering a free baby and child First Aid class for bereaved parents and families who have suffered a pregnancy loss, or the death of a baby or child of any age.
You are welcome to bring babies under 12 months with you. You may wish to bring a mat / toys.
This will be a sensitive and slower paced class with breaks, and time to connect with other bereaved families. Refreshments (tea, coffee, water, biscuits) will be available. Please note, this class is only for bereaved families. Below is a schedule of how the class will run so you are aware of the subjects in advance. Appropriate trigger warnings will be provided throughout the class.
9.45am: Arrival, chat to other parents, grab a brew
10am: Class starts. Introduction to first aid including First Aid kits
10.15am: Assessing a casualty (primary survey) - including checking for breathing
10.30am: CPR on babies and children with opportunity to practise
11am: Break / refreshments
11.30am: Burns, bleeds and bumps
12.00midday: Choking
12.15pm: Febrile seizures and infections
12.30pm-1pm: Wind down, refreshments, chat to other parents and opportunity to speak to trainer / private questions
Your session will be delivered by Maria - Director of Mini First Aid Nottingham and Derby. Maria is a bereaved parent also. She lost her son at 15 weeks in August 2024, and another pregnancy in February 2025.
