Mini Muckathlon ( Practice & Race Combo)
Sun 4 June 2017, 13:00 – 16:00 BST
Ginger Squirrel Adventures has teamed up with Muckmedden events to provide children who have never before raced a duathalon an opportunity to practice the format, meet friends to race with and enter the race in the one place. This is also the place to buy a practise day ticket if you have already the race entered via the Muckmedden website.
Combo Price (£30) includes:
- Practice Afternoon (run practise, ride practise, snack and 1 hour dual slalom coaching)
- Race Entry (1x childs muckathlon)
- MTB Festival entry (1 x childs MTB festival)
- Water Bottle
Practise Day only (£20) includes:
- Practise Afternoon (run practise, ride practise, snack and 1 hour dual slalom coaching)
Practise Day - Beecraigs Sunday 4th June 2017
We will practice the duathalon format at the GSA Junior Camp usual destination of Beecraigs.
500metre run/walk then straight on to the bikes for 3km xc cycle around the trails.
For those who aren't sure of distances, 1km is roughly once around the outside of the Toprhichen football pitch. 3km is only a fifth of what the Junior Ginger Squirrels do on a normal camp day.
The distance is very manageable.
The Muckathlon course will incorporate the Barley Slalom area which is a dual slalom style descent inside a fully grown barley field. We will be doing a 1 hour coaching session in the grass field area within Beecraigs, where the children will learn the required skills to enjoy the Barley Slalom.
Race day - Saturday 24th June 2017
The muckathlon is a duathalon hich will be held during the MTB Festival in Newburgh on 23-25th June 2017.
On race day the childs chaperone should meet at the GSA meeting point, where we shall all register together, sort number boards then set off to get ready to start as a group ( and according to age as required as per Muckmedden rules).
Children require a chaperone (with a valid MTB festival ticket to gain access) to set the child off an collect the child at the end. Child and adult then enjoy the rest of the MTB festival. With so much to see and do as part of the festival entry you can expect to be there all day.
No special biking skills required. Just the ability to ride without stabilisers and change gears
Bike that fits (16inch minimum weels)
Helmet in good working order
