MIRRA (Memory – Identity – Rights in Records – Access)

About this event

MIRRA (https://blogs.ucl.ac.uk/mirra/about/) is an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded project based at UCL examining the experiences of people who spent the early part of their lives in care in accessing their care records. Results from phase one suggested strong support for more participatory record-keeping. Phase two, which is now coming to an end, has been focused on developing the specification for a system that will better facilitate the contribution of young people to their own records.

UCL and OLM Systems (the main project partner in phase two - https://www.olmsystems.com/) invite you to a two-day symposium examining social care record creation and access for in-care and care-experienced people, with MIRRA as the main focus.

Day one will examine the creation of participatory records (language, system design etc.), including demonstrations of the new system specification developed by OLM and UCL as part of the MIRRA project. Other presentations include: ‘Designing for voice, agency and equity in Care recordkeeping’ (Joanne Evans, Monash University) and ‘How care experienced people informed our approach to better recording’ (Gavin Moorghen, British Association of Social Workers).

Day two will look at facilitating access to care records for care leavers, showcasing the work of MIRRA. Other presentations include: ‘Find & Connect web resource of historical resources relating to institutional care in Australia’ (Kerstin Wright, The University of Melbourne) and ‘Historical recording practices and their impact on data protection and information release’ (Heather Forbes and Imogen Watts, Gloucester CC)

You can register for either or both days. In the case of the latter, you will need to register for each day separately.

8 and 9 September 09:00—13:00

Please note, you will receive the Zoom Link a day before the event.
