Are you interested in or concerned about how religions and beliefs are portrayed in the media?
Would you like to share and learn with people from diverse religious and non-religious perspectives?
As part of Scottish Interfaith Week people of any faith or belief background are invited to explore together media depictions of Atheism, Islam and Judaism and, in doing so, grow in their understanding of each other and of the impact the media can have on community relations.
This event will follow the basic format of a popular method of interfaith dialogue known as Scriptural Reasoning where equal time is spent exploring scriptural texts from different traditions on a common theme. In the place of scripture, however, will be extracts from media articles which portray Islam, Judaism and Atheism in ways that are problematic. Each article will be introduced by a person from the faith or belief concerned. This will be followed by small group discussion on that text, its accuracy and the effect it may have on people's perception of others.
Participants are invited to arrive at 6pm when light refreshments will be served. The programme will begin at 6.30pm.
