Join us for the UK premiere of Lazy Guy (Lijenština) — Aleksa Radunović’s powerful and critically acclaimed debut feature — in the final chapter of our uplifting Missing Soul event series.
More than just a film screening, this evening is about connection, conversation, and community. After the film, meet the creative mind behind it in a live Q&A with the director, and explore how storytelling can spark real social change.
About the Film – Lazy Guy
Lazy Guy is a raw, moving drama that cuts straight to the heart of modern-day Montenegro’s social and economic struggles. Inspired by the real-life experiences of lead actor Savo Šćepanović — who plays a version of himself — the film follows Miloš, a man separated from his wife and unable to see his child until he can pay alimony. Desperate for work, Miloš faces systemic corruption, economic stagnation, and the quiet resilience of the women around him.
Far from the stereotype of Montenegrins as “lazy,” Lazy Guy offers an unflinching look at pride, dignity, and the fight for survival in a system stacked against ordinary people. Its authenticity is amplified by a cast of mostly non-professional actors and the fact it was made on a micro-budget of just €4,000 for production — yet has achieved global recognition.
Why This Film Matters
Since premiering at the prestigious 2018 Motovun Film Festival, Lazy Guy has earned awards and acclaim worldwide, including:
- Best Feature Film – Youth Film Festival Sarajevo
- Best Feature Film & Best Actor – SEE Film Festival, Paris
- Special Mentions – Herceg Novi Film Festival & CINEDAYS Festival of European Film
- Official selections at international festivals from Germany’s Cottbus Film Festival to Canada’s Ontario International Film Festival
Praised for its social commentary and compared to the works of Ken Loach, Lazy Guy is more than a film — it’s an urgent story about humanity, community, and the power of resilience.
