Event description

Description

Compliance is nothing to fear, as is so often laboured. We accept there are consequences for non-compliance, and there should be, but starting with that attitude - “we have to do this because if not we’ll be in trouble” is somewhat missing the point.

Compliance is about delivering the best service to the client. It is about reducing the risk of things going wrong. And it is about properly managing the work so it is efficient. It provides a framework to work towards delivering excellence.

Amy Bell is Chair of the Law Society's Money Laundering Task Force. She is also the author of the Law Society's Anti-Bribery Toolkit.

Amy Bell

Amy is now a non-fee earning solicitor and now advises other law firms on compliance issues, helping firms navigate the compliance requirements and use them to develop their businesses to produce high-quality services for clients with minimal risk and maximum efficiency. She is the Director of Teal Compliance and Amy Bell Compliance, specialising in Anti-money Laundering, Compliance, Risk Management, Anti-Bribery, COLP and COFA advice, Data Protection, Learning and Development

Getting out the message as to how firms might be targeted by criminals is one of Amy's favourite things to do. It is upsetting that people working hard to serve their communities can be targeted by criminals. She is passionate and committed to raising awareness about the tactics criminals employ so we can protect firms from unwittingly becoming involved in money laundering.

Amy and her team provide help in developing new systems and structures, assisting firms to navigate the changes in the legal services market. The market is changing, in some cases beyond recognition and so are the clients. They have three aims:

1. To see legal services delivered in a way that best suits the client, so they feel comfortable and not intimidated by legal services.
2. For clients to have the utmost confidence in lawyers, which means we have managed away the risks.
3. For legal services to be fairly priced, for the clients, and the lawyers, so we want it to be as efficient as possible.

Please note that this seminar will currently be held in the Ranmore Suite on the Ground Floor at Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking, though the venue may be subject to change.
