11:00 - 11:45 Brexit and Now What?

Depending on the outcome of Brexit, there could be some work that the MLRO/financial crime community have to get prepared for. If we leave, every law in the land will need to change. To what extent will legislators tighten / loosen legislation? If there is another extension to Article 50, what challenges will that bring?

11:45 - 12:30 What does the MLRO really do and what does the future hold?

The role of the MLRO is constantly evolving and in some firms has grown to include responsibilities such as fraud, tax-evasion and immigration compliance. How are MLROs adapting to this change and what does the future hold? Technology is also enabling firms to better identify and manage financial crime risk but is the pace of change really helping? Also, the external environment including public, private partnerships has been much espoused – but are they really making a difference?

Speaker: Allan Clare - Head of Financial Crime Compliance & MLRO, HSBC UK

Selection of sandwiches, drinks and snacks available.

13:30 - 14:15 AML Mock Trial

14:15 - 15:00 Is Machine Learning /Artificial Intelligence the answer or will we always need human beings?

The recent growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI)and Machine Learning (ML) is starting to promise a revolution in the way that due diligence and alert monitoring is conducted. There is the potential, over the next few years, for these systems to take over from human beings in these roles. Given the need for banks and other FIs to rein in massive spending on compliance, will these systems ever entirely replace people and are we in danger of watering down our compliance in the rush to automate?
