Event description

Description

This is an opportunity to make a simple 3-D structure out of wood, wire, fishing line and paper. The workshop will start with cutting out and decorating paper shapes. We will then move on to the construction of the mobile out of fishing line, wire and wood. When hung the mobile will move with the air currents producing ever-changing patterns and shadows.

About the Artist : I have always loved patterns, and have been making paper mobiles for around 10 years. I like the patterns presented by the moving parts, and enjoy the effect of light, creating shadows and reflections. I like to work on a large scale, and have completed several installations including one representing the Tour de France at the City Screen. 3 years ago I discovered perspex as a material for mobile making, and now produce mobiles, shapes boxes and brooches out of cut and etched perspex, as well as paper.

The Langwith Scott Award offers free workshops to all current students and staff at the university, all you need is an online ticket from eventbrite and a free Tuesday evening! The Langwith Scott Awards exist to promote artistic creativity of all kinds. We encourage all participants to submit their works in for the Awards. This year's theme is 'Origins'.

Workshops all take place on Tuesdays from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in The Basement in Langwith College at the University of York. The entrance to The Basement can be found on the ground floor of John West Taylor Court which is situated behind The Glasshouse. If lost or locked out please report to the Langwith Reception Porters in the centre building who will be more than happy to help.

In order to keep the workshops running we do have a penalty fee for not attending workshops that you reserve a ticket for. This figure varies per workshop is calculated by dividing the artist's fee by number of participants and adding the materials cost if there is one. If you change your mind after reserving a ticket just get in touch with the committee to free up your place again and no fee will be incurred.
