Mobilising Churches on the environment: A lecture by Andy Atkins
Event Information
Description
The environment is in trouble, from climate change, through species loss, to air pollution. We need to roll out solutions urgently and at scale, and enlist sectors of society which could accelerate progress. Could the UK churches be one? And if so, what would it take to bring that about?
Andy Atkins, an experienced charity campaigner and Christian will take a hard-nosed look at these questions examining the biblical mandate for action, the actual potential, significant challenges and opportunities. He’ll draw on his insider knowledge of key campaigns such as the unprecedented 2005 Make Poverty History campaign, and Friends of the Earth’s successful Bee Cause, and propose next steps and challenges to Christians, Church leaders and politicians alike.
Andy Atkins is currently Chief Executive of Christian environment charity A Rocha UK. He is a former CEO of Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Advocacy Director at Christian international development NGO Tearfund.
