About this event

Spend a peaceful couple of days, immersed in the primitive skill of making buckskin moccasins.

We'll use an authentic primitive pattern and organically tanned buckskin, made by Steve using local deer.  With Steve’s expert tuition, you’ll create your own functional pair of the most comfortable shoes you'll ever wear!  An experience not to be forgotten.

You’ll be shown how to make your own personalised pattern, to use again and again.  You’ll learn how to use different sewing techniques and tools, and a little about the history of the design and materials used.

The course is hosted within the Brecon Beacons National Park, within our peaceful woodland.  We lay on all the campfire tea and coffee you can drink and provide snacks.  Please bring your own lunch (which you are welcome to cook over the fire) and your own tent and sleeping gear.  Or you can rent our Baker Tent or Whelen Shelter and sleeping bag for £50, if you prefer.

“Brilliant course!  With Steve's excellent tuition you can achieve amazing results & their hospitality can't be beaten.”

 Experience includes:

  • Take home your hand made moccasins - the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever wear
  • Leave with the pattern and skills to be able to practice on your own
  • All the tools and materials you'll need
  • Tea and coffee all day - bring your own food to cook over the fire
  • Camping

Want to make a longer stay of it or upgrade your stay? Treat yourself to a stay in our Shepherds Hut or bring a tent for £15 per night.

Axe & Paddle Bushcraft began back in 2012, when husband and wife team Steven and Kirsty Le Say hosted a Spoon Carving Workshop in a friend’s garden.

We’ve just relocated and opened up our own studio, on an 8 acre smallholding in the Brecon Beacons National Park - where we now host a number of courses, teaching traditional skills and crafts. We also have Shepherds Hut accommodation and camping available.
