Modern Man 3, The Resurgence

We are honoured and inspired to be offering another opportunity for men to retreat into nature for 24hrs to tune into its wild wisdom and that which we hold within us. Gathering around the fire to explore what it means to be a man in today's world.

Join us as we guide you through a series of activities and conversations to help you slow down and connect deeply with nature, other men and most importantly yourself. The intention is for you to leave feeling a greater sense of balance, perspective and a boosted sense of wellbeing. And to discover something new in yourself and the brothers that you will sit alongside in support around the fire. A new insight that you’ve not seen or felt before as you tune into the wisdom in nature and your own internal compass.

An opportunity to come home to yourself to let go, release and relax into your true authentic self. An invitation to be seen and heard as you are, without masks. And to feel inspired and energised, to find that spark within that empowers you to take a step towards the future you desire and deserve! Setting clear intentions for how you want to show up for yourself. Remembering that we all get to decide what energy we bring into our lives, energy that supports us powerfully moving forward.

This will be fun, engaging and thought provoking. You will be invited to take part in different activities, and you can get involved as much as you are feeling the capacity to do so.

Activities

Nature connection and forest bathing

Grounding meditation

Crafting, whittling, wood chopping

Fire lighting and tending

Sharing circles, deep listening

Conversations that connect

There will be opportunities to share our reflections, thoughts and feelings with the group, but there is no pressure to do so. Sharing together in circle, where we are really be seen and heard, can be a powerful and healing experience. This can feel challenging for some and it’s by leaning into these moments that we learn, grow and discover new parts of ourselves.

Frequently asked questions

Woodland Site?

It’s a private woodland with primarily coniferous trees, along with an abundance of plants and wildlife creating a rich biodiversity and a magical feel to the site. We work together with our woodland neighbours to ensure sympathetic development of our special little bit of South Wiltshire.

Location?

The surrounding area has some of the finest countryside. An area of outstanding natural beauty, with stunning stone and thatched villages, lakes and forests. There are many local artisanal crafts people and an abundance of high-quality local produce and some superb pubs and restaurants.

Accomodation?

This is an immersive 24hr experience that includes sleeping out under the stars in the beautiful woodland. You will need to provide all the camping gear that you need so you are comfortable and warm. You are welcome to pitch a tent, sling a hammock in the trees or hunker down in a bivvy by the fire.

Facilities

You’ll find all you need for a great day in the forest. The infrastructure is simple to reduce the impact on nature and to keep the woodland looking beautiful. Facilities include a small cabin, fire-based cooking on a large grill BBQ, compost toilet, central fire pit and parking within 50m.

Parking?

There is private parking within 50m of our main site. This is accessed via a good gravel track from the road. And there is additional parking nearby. Access is not suitable for vehicles any bigger than a medium sized van.

Accessibility?

Our woodland is an easily accessed wild place. There is parking via a good gravel track within 50m of the main part of the site. So any camp kit, food etc can be dropped off conveniently. And moreover, if someone is less mobile, they can get to the heart of our woods with ease.

Food?

We will feast together around the fire on nutritious local food that will support and nurture us. It includes a buffet lunch, a feast for dinner and a breakfast for kings! Teas and coffee will be available throughout the day also. Please inform us on any special dietary requirements 7 days prior.

Alcohol and substances?

This is a sober event free from alcohol and other stimulants to enable us to be fully conscious and feel all that we need to feel.

Things to bring

Water bottle, cutlery, plate, bowl, mug, camping gear, sleeping gear, suitable clothing, wash bag, head torch, notebook and pen. You may also consider bringing sun cream, cap/hat and insect repellent?

Clothing

Clothing? This is an outdoor event so dress appropriately so you are comfortable, warm and dry. Layers are a great idea and a rain jacket just in case. You may also consider bringing sun cream, cap/hat and insect repellent?

Crafting and tools?

No experience is necessary with the craft/s we will offer and the tools we use. Safety will of course be a priority.

Participation and capacity?

The intention is to connect deeply with nature, ourselves and others, with opportunities to share openly and authentically. This may feel challenging and take us to our edges of what feels familiar and comfortable. However, everything is invitational and you get to decide how much you take part.

Weather?

This is 24hr outdoor event, so bring appropriate clothing and kit with you to cover all eventualities. The event will go ahead if the weather is mixed with some rain showers. The event will be cancelled only if there is really heavy rain or winds that would make it unsafe to go ahead.

Cancellation?

If you need to cancel coming to the event, for whatever reason, you will receive a full refund up to 14 days prior to the event, minus your booking fee paid to EventBrite. If we cancel due to extreme weather or other exceptional circumstance, we will offer you an alternative date or a full refund.

Any other questions?

You will receive more detailed information and the address in your confirmation email once you have purchased your ticket. If you still have any other questions do get in touch with us.

And here’s a few words from my friend Jules Gray who I’m collaborating with to deliver this special event, and who is hosting it on in his private woodland.

My name is Jules Gray. I'm a few different things all rolled into one. I am an Artisan builder, working for the most part with timber and natural stone. Interesting and creative projects in the main. And I'm a father to 3 beautiful children. And then I'm a woodsman.

.

As a family we are lucky enough to own a small woodland in South Wiltshire. And it's in this space that we camp, cook and create. My wife is a Forest School leader. After school, and holiday clubs bring children into close contact with nature. And here they Immerse themselves in all kinds of creative activities.

.

I take individuals into our space as a 1 to 1 coach and using nature as a conduit for change, help them to change or find ways to see a path to there goals. Remove limiting beliefs and deal with inner trauma.

.

I have been creating and bringing about occasional days that are often a nature reconnection in some form, whether that's a retreat day, men’s work groups, or as is happening very soon, a woodland jewellery making, silversmithing day. The main aim is for a group of people to come together, meet, eat great fire cooked food, and enjoy our woodland and feel the ambient goodness of nature, and reconnect and reboot in Whatever way they need.

.

My woodland business is called Into the Wild with Gilbert-Gray.
