This course is part of the Halton Safeguarding Adults Board (HSAB) multi-agency training offer.

About this Event

Aims:

To provide staff, volunteers and carers who work or support adults (paid or unpaid) with a basic understanding and knowledge of Modern Day Slavery and the Council’s obligations under the Modern Day Slavery Act 2015.

Participants will be able to address concerns effectively and understand the local arrangements for taking appropriate action where there is an identified risk of harm.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session attendees to this training will have:

• A greater awareness of modern day slavery, including labour exploitation and human trafficking:

o Terminology used

o Vulnerability factors that can make individuals more susceptible

o Be able to identify and refer a potential victim

• Increased knowledge of the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) and what Government support is available for victims

• Understand roles and responsibilities in tackling modern day slavery, including the Duty to Notify and the role of “first responders”

• Know how to contribute to fighting modern day slavery in the UK

• Increased knowledge of what the local authority and Partners are doing to combat Modern Day Slavery

• Know who to contact and seek advice from (nationally and locally) if you have concerns an individual is being subjected to Modern Day Slavery or Human Trafficking

• Become familiar with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and proposed changes following Independent Review

• Terms of definitions

• Human trafficking versus people smuggling

• Factors of vulnerability

• Duty to notify

Target Audience:

Delegates can be from any background or profession as HSAB hope to raise awareness across the various communities aiming to help protect vulnerable people who may be at risk of harm and exploitation.

Delivery method and details:

This is a half-day learning session which involves group discussion, participatory exercises and interactive activity.

It is expected that the knowledge and skills gained will be taken away and embedded into practice. The learner’s organisation will be accountable for measuring competence following training.

Learners are expected to refresh their knowledge and understanding of adults safeguarding at least every three years.
