Event description

Description

Please note that this training is commissioned by Westminster, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham councils and is restricted to professionals working in these boroughs. The training is open to all voluntary and statutory partners (statutory partners include councils' employees, BCU AW police, colleagues from local NHS trusts, probation, ICE etc). The organisers reserve the right to cancel places. If you are unsure whether you should attend, please contact robyn.phillips@stopthetraffik.org

Modern Slavery affects millions of men, women and children worldwide and thousands of them are being exploited here in the UK. The UK is a source, transit and destination country for human trafficking and it happens here on our streets.

By recognising the indicators of modern slavery and understanding referral procedure, you can support the most vulnerable people in our community and help prevent this crime from happening.

By the end of the session, you will know:

  • What modern slavery and human trafficking is, the types of exploitation and the difference with people smuggling

  • How to identify potential victims of modern slavery and the barriers to disclosure they might face

  • The National Referral Mechanism process and an overview of the Modern Slavery Act

  • How to respond when potential victims are identified.

This training will focus mainly on adult victims of modern slavery but we will make reference to the types of exploitation children face and the protocols for responding to this. Child trafficking training is available via the LSCB website.
