About this event

‘Let’s Bridge the Gaps’ – How the Physicality of Limbering feeds Technique and Develops Artistry in Dance Movements.

This lecture with Ms Tereza Theodoulou is an introduction to analysis and to look at ways to develop a deeper understanding of the purpose of Limbering (Physical), its application to Centre Work and Dance Movements (Technical) and how the use of rhythmic dynamics will enhance musicality and quality of movement (Artistry).

Ms Tereza Theodoulou will use a selection of different exercises through the lecture , to demonstrate how we can question and analyse these concepts to help "Bridge the Gaps" of our own connections from one Grade to the next, through to the current Intermediate, making the transitions to Advanced 1 more logical and attainable.

This lecture is open to all Modern Theatre members whether you are a DDE, Associate, Associate Diploma Student and/or tutor and also any Licentiate and Fellowship candidate and coaches, and will highlight that nothing is ever taught in isolation – every exercise and sequence has been created with a specific purpose whether Physical, Technical or Artistic.

Each component makes reference to every part of a specific syllabus. Each syllabus is a complete course of study and is constructed with the previous level in mind so that a logical progression can be made. It also takes the next level into consideration so that each component can act as preparatory stage for the more advanced work of a higher grade up to vocational.

Introduction to Tereza Theodoulou

While still dancing professionally, Tereza continued to teach and complete her training as an examiner. She then studied at the Alvin Ailey School to explore the rich diversity of Jazz and took Jazz and Tap classes at various studios in New York. She feels it is important to continue expanding her knowledge so revisits regularly for further choreographic inspiration and to compare teaching methodologies with those used in the UK.

Tereza is a member of the prestigious creative teams that have developed most of the Modern Theatre syllabi and examines and lectures for the ISTD in the U.K, E.U and internationally.

She has taught at many Performing Arts colleges and recently retired from Bird College after 27 years where her approach to developing the understanding of the physique and its’ potential has been the focus of her most recent freelance teaching program, ‘Teaching Jazz Technique’.

Tereza currently delivers ISTD courses throughout the world, encouraging teachers to explore the concepts and purpose of teaching syllabus by using artistic dynamics to enhance technique and musicality in dance.

A member of the Modern Theatre Faculty Committee since 2003, she became Vice Chair in 2011 and was appointed Chair in June 2017.

In January 2020 Tereza was appointed as the International Ambassador (Theatre Faculties) for the ISTD.
